Salmagundi are bassist Sangwoo Lee and drummer Marcos Fernandes. Lee, born in Korea, had initially come to study music in Japan while Fernandes, born in Japan, had recently returned to his native soil after many years in California. The two met in Tokyo and quickly recognizing their shared musical affinities began playing as a rhythm section and eventually decided to work on some tunes together. They entered the studio in early Spring of 2011 and with the help of a handful of capable friends, recorded the songs, mostly instrumental, which range in style from rock to post-rock, ambient to dub. Salmagundi is the result of this collaboration. On this track, they are joined by Takashi Ueno and Yoko Arai who collaborated with Fernandes in Melt (Pure Melt, 2015) and Wormhole (Last Waltz, 2019) respectively. Lee and Fernandes later formed the rhythm section of The Argonauts (Here Come The Argonauts!, 2016; Proxima b, 2017).
